Chase Atlantic is an Australian R&B band and production trio from Cairns, Queensland, formed in 2014. The group consists of three members: Christian Anthony, Clinton Cave, and Mitchel Cave. They have recently been on their tour named Live in North America and have officially released their fourth studio album, LOST IN HEAVEN, on November 1st of this year. This album features 13 tracks that truly elevate their music!
“FAVELA” (7/10)
The first track of this album is named “FAVELA” which means several different types of impoverished neighborhoods in Brazil. This song crafts a narrative that is both vivid and layered, reflecting Chase Atlantic’s unique style and thematic preoccupations. The song explores themes such as disconnection, danger, and cultural immersion. Lyrics like “Head in the clouds / Head in my hands / Chopper and beretta” show personal conflict and represent physical violence that takes place in the Brazilian locale. This song is something that reflects on their hard-core rock music. It is a song that can truly get you hyped, but for me it wasn’t one of my top favorites.
“RICOCHET” (10/10)
This track first came out as a single and is a part of this album. “RICOCHET” is my top favorite because the song is upbeat and has Chase Atlantic’s classic rock sound, but the lyrics also express a deeper, sad meaning. The lyrics, “Ricochet, misfired, but the bullet hit me anyway / I’ll take anything to kill this pain / I’m so tired, and I’ve only got myself to blame / Might not make it to my thirties, dig an early grave” shows the idea that ignoring their pain didn’t work and the “bullet” hit them anyway. This song demonstrates how this trio portrays different aspects of mental health, as well as how many teens and adults disregard their anguish in various ways, only to have it return and worsen. In my opinion, it is a beautifully written song that is energetic and lively, yet carries a profound message.
“YOU” (10/10)
This song, in my opinion, is different from the typical style of Chase Atlantic tracks. Instead of being a vibrant song, this track is part of their broader discography that reflects themes of love, desire, and introspection, resonating with a diverse audience. The verse and pre-verse lead up to the intensity of emotions expressed in the chorus and verse: “I’m so in love with you / Baby, it’s driving me crazy / A thousand apologies couldn’t make up for the time that I wasted, yeah / I wrote this song for you” convey a powerful mix of devotion and remorse, with the speaker expressing an intense love and longing to make amends. The meaning is unlike any song that this trio has written before, and it is why I adore this track so much.
“DISCONNECTED” (9/10)
This track is in my top favorites as well because it is an intense sonic journey that balances dark, hypnotic beats with hauntingly raw lyrics. The track opens with a sense of emotional isolation, with lyrics like, “I’m lost in my mind, drowning in silence,” capturing an overwhelming feeling of detachment that resonates throughout. The slow, captivating tempo and eerie melodies underscore the emotional weight of the song, pulling listeners into a dark, introspective space. The line, “I’m reaching for something that’s slipping away” emphasizes the song’s exploration of frustration and helplessness in the face of fading connections. I think this song will be a major hit on their album because, while it stays true to Chase Atlantic’s signature style, it brings something fresh that highlights the growth in both their lyrics and music.
“HOURS LOST” (9/10)
Chase Atlantic delivers a reflective, moody masterpiece that seamlessly combines its signature dark aesthetic with an even more mature lyrical depth. The song’s opening line, “Counting hours lost in faded memories,” draws listeners into a mesmerizing space where time feels suspended, perfectly setting the stage for the reflective journey ahead. Additionally, the line, “Trying to feel something real but I’m slipping away” captures a deep sense of emotional numbness, giving voice to the struggle of reaching for connection amidst isolation. This is another song that shows how Chase Atlantic is exemplifying its artistic growth.
“AMY” (8/10)
“AMY” unveils a hauntingly introspective side of the band, departing from their typical dark, atmospheric vibe for a softer, more vulnerable sound. The song’s brooding instrumental swells slowly, with Mitchel Cave’s delicate vocals singing, “I think I lost myself again, searching for a reason to pretend,” setting a deeply personal tone. Rather than leaning on intense electronic drops, this song relies on raw lyrics and layered vocals, with the refrain, “Amy, I’m still broken underneath it all,” lingering long after. This confessional approach paints a picture of self-doubt and internal struggle, showcasing a maturity in their artistry. I love this new side of Chase Atlantic’s music — the duality of upbeat electronic music that you can scream to, and also sad music that can get you in your feels.
This new album in my opinion successfully lives up to expectations by seamlessly blending upbeat tracks with emotionally charged ballads, showcasing their versatility as artists. LOST IN HEAVEN highlights their growth, as they navigate the complexities of love and self-discovery while maintaining their signature sound.
