Critic Rating: 7.5/10
In a world where choosing a place to eat is so difficult, the Croffle House is the easiest decision. Located in Flushing, the Croffle House is just two short bus rides from Townsend, about half an hour away. To get there, you would only need to take the Q44 to Main St/39 Av and then get on the Q12 to Sanford Av/149 St. The place itself has a beautifully designed, aesthetically pleasing interior and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s super cute and the staff are friendly. The Croffle House offers both indoor and outdoor seating as well, making it the perfect hangout spot for friends to enjoy a sweet treat after school. They offer an assortment of desserts, from cookies to baked goods to bubble tea. But, we can’t forget their iconic croffles – a combination in which croissant dough is pressed in a waffle maker, creating a unique croffle shape.
We ordered four different croffles out of the many flavors they have to offer: raspberry, strawberry, sweet potato, and Oreo. Here’s a breakdown of what we thought about each one.
Raspberry Croffle: 7/10
The raspberry croffle was flavorful and paired with the best fruit. The croffle dough itself was delicately sweet and had vanilla buttercream on top, which was a tad bit luscious but had a soft, light taste that complimented the croffle. Finally, it was topped with powdered sugar and raspberries. Overall, the croffle wasn’t too sugary and tasted delicious with the fresh fruit. The only downside to this treat was the lack of raspberries, which only came with four. It would’ve tasted much better if there was a raspberry with each bite. However, for $5.75, the price matched the taste.
Strawberry Croffle: 8/10
This decadent treat was perfection. It was a sweet croffle with a hint of maple syrup. Once again, the strawberry croffle consisted of the same base as the raspberry one — only this time, there were strawberries instead of raspberries. The strawberry pieces paired with powdered sugar were chef’s kiss. Unlike the raspberry croffle, there were strawberry bits in every bite. On top of all that, there was a layer of strawberry jam, enhancing the strong fruity flavor. While the jam was delicious, we wished it was a bit less sugary and chunkier. The price was also $5.75, which isn’t so bad.
Oreo Croffle: 5/10
The Oreo croffle was sweet and had a nice crunch. It featured the same base, topped with buttercream, crushed Oreo pieces, and a mini Oreo for garnish. The croffle itself was very sugary, and the Oreo pieces made it even sweeter. This croffle was exceptional, but the Oreo flavor was a bit too strong for our taste. We wished there were other components to balance out the flavor. For the price of $5.50, we would get another fruit-flavored option instead. That said, this croffle is definitely a must-try for any Oreo lover.
Sweet Potato Croffle: 5/10
The sweet potato croffle consisted of the same base as the other ones and was topped off with sweet potato pieces. On top of that was the smooth buttercream and powdered sugar. Unlike the other croffles, this one was less sweet, but it still delivered the strong sweet potato flavor. The sweet potato buttercream was light and fluffy, making it pretty good overall. This wasn’t particularly a bad croffle flavor, but it wasn’t exactly our favorite either. The price was also $5.50, similar to the Oreo croffle.
The Croffle House should definitely be on your list if you want to try out a new and cute dessert place. While it’s best known for its unique croffles, it also offers a variety of other desserts and we totally recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for a crispy and filling dessert. On a side note, we found the flavors to be quite intense and the toppings too few, so keep that in mind when choosing your croffle. Overall, we can’t wait to visit again to try their more savory flavors and maybe even their mochi donuts!
