In the 2022-2023 school year, Townsend Harris has brought back a fan favorite to their school store: ice cream! The store has a plethora of options, including popsicles, ices, ice cream cups, and sandwiches, all for $2 each.

There are many flavors to choose from, including vanilla ice cream sandwiches, cotton candy cups, blue raspberry/cherry italian ices, twix/snicker bars, cyclone popsicles, good humor cones, frozen fruit, jolly rancher tubes, and fudge sundae cups.

The variety of options allow students with different preferences to enjoy their favorite type of cold treats, or savor something new. We tried three different ice creams to see if they were worth our money.

Cotton Candy : 9/10

Out of the three ice creams we tried, our favorite was the cotton candy cup. It has pink and blue stripes swirled together in a very visually appealing fashion. The cotton candy cup was a go to, being a nostalgic childhood favorite. Already implied by the name, the ice cream tasted sweet and berry-like. However, the cup had already melted when we bought it, blemishing our experience.

Ice Cream Sandwich: 8/10

Another ice cream we tasted was the Nestle Vanilla ice cream sandwich. The sandwich’s soft and chewy texture was our favorite aspect, and the ice cream tasted similar to Haagen Dazs’ vanilla ice cream, definitely a must-try.

Italian Ice: 3/10

The last one we purchased was Marino’s Blue Raspberry Italian ice. It tasted similar to medicine and didn’t suit our preferences. However, students who enjoy blue raspberry as a flavor may find it worth a try.

Overall, ice cream is a big hit within the Townsend Harris community, as obvious by the ever-present line. Hopefully we can see more options in the future along with more students willing to try them. It’s definitely worth checking out for those craving a cold-treat.
