Now that we’re heading into Winter Break, the festive season is here! Gong Cha, an international classic bubble tea franchise, recently launched their new Milk Foam Gingerbread Milk Tea. Gong Cha has multiple locations across New York, and I went to their location on Main Street. We can find them inside the New World Food Court, a local cuisine melting pot. The line and service were relatively quick, and the baristas were friendly.
The seasonal order comes with an adorable gingerbread man bottle adorned with a mini red and white scarf. When I saw this all over my Instagram feed, I immediately knew I had to try it. The bottle costs an additional $1 with other drink purchases. However, if you order one of the holiday-themed drinks, which I recommend, then the bottle comes for free. It is a limited-time beverage that will be available until the end of December.
When I took a sip, my first thought was that it tasted just like a gingerbread/Biscoff cookie! The drink is made with a milk tea base and your choice of tea (I chose oolong), mixed with spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger—typical gingerbread cookie spices. At the top was a slightly savory milk foam that perfectly balances the drink’s sweetness. The boba pearls were perfectly soft and chewy as well. It was a tad bit too sweet for my liking, but nonetheless, the flavors blended together nicely and it was delicious. There’s also the option of requesting a lower sweetness level if it’s not to your liking.
Overall, Gong Cha is a solid option amongst the plethora of boba chains in NYC. I really enjoyed this drink and will continue to frequent them in the future.
